MARCH 17-19, 2027 | THE GRAND HYATT, TAMPA BAY, FL
The conference for family businesses working on succession, engagement and governance.
“The best family business event I've ever attended!"
--Past Transitions attendee
LETTING GO, STEPPING UP.
Every succession has two sides. One generation has to loosen its grip on a business it built or protected. The other has to prove it can carry the weight, often before anyone is sure it can. Transitions Spring 2027 focuses on the gap between those two acts, which is where most transitions succeed or fail.
This year's program offers actionable guidance to help current leaders leave on their own terms, help NextGens step into new roles with confidence and help the rest of the family stay connected throughout the change.
Through interactive sessions, case studies and candid conversations, participants will learn how to:
- Plan an exit, and a post-leadership role, that strengthens a successor's authority rather than quietly undermining it.
- Assess NextGen readiness honestly and give successors the autonomy that research links to a successful handoff.
- Test family values against hard decisions, and recognize when admirable values have hardened into obstacles.
- Keep the whole family connected through the change by building trust among siblings and cousins, supporting succession from outside the successor's seat and staying united when the family disagrees on more than the business.
Join us to hear from families who have navigated both sides of the handoff, and leave with practical tools to help your family let go, step up and move forward together.

The Transitions conferences have been called by attendees “the best event our family has ever attended.” That’s because the conferences focus on the key issues facing all multi-generational family businesses, with the perspectives of experienced families.
Here’s what attendees say:
“I had no idea an event like Transitions existed, and it was exactly what I needed!”
“This event was extremely valuable for me and my family.”
“I gained so much knowledge and made so many connections with other families!”
“We’re so glad we attended; there was great content and great discussions.”

Why Transitions?
Speakers from family companies: Our focus is on speakers from family enterprises, sharing real-life problems and solutions.
Intimate, open environment: Limited attendance, and a private "safe harbor" environment in which to openly share challenges and opportunities with other families.
Collaborative discussions: Opportunities to work through family issues via guided discussions.
No-sell environment: Conference sponsors understand and commit to participating as thought leaders and experts, and are restricted from actively selling their products and services.
Peer groups: Attendees get the opportunity to engage in small working groups with an industry expert facilitating the session.
Networking with families like yours: Hosted networking, opening reception, dynamic seating and workshops are all designed to allow you to meet many family enterprise attendees.
Family focus: Brought to you by family-owned Family Business Magazine. We use family-owned or family-controlled hotels, transportation services, restaurants and service providers whenever possible. We believe in, and invest in, America's family businesses.
Who Should Attend?
Attendance is limited to owners, CEOs, directors, senior executives (including non-family executives and non-family board members) family council leaders, NextGens, shareholders or future shareholders of family-owned businesses whose primary business is other than advising family-owned businesses.
This conference is designed to facilitate conversation on important family issues among generations.
